2027 Honda Passport Trims Explained for South-Central Indiana Drivers: RT-L, TrailSport and Elite
The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.
Around Taylorsville, the Passport trim question is mostly about towing and gravel. The RT-L is plenty for I-65. The TrailSport and RT-L Towing add a factory hitch for Lake Monroe, and the TrailSport adds the tires and clearance for gravel.

What You Give Up When You Move Up
Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.
Moving from RT-L to TrailSport
- Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
- Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
- Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
- Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
- Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
- Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.
Moving from TrailSport to Elite
- Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
- Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.
Adding Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
Passport Trim vs. Trim
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
For $700, the RT-L Towing adds a factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel, nothing else. If you'll ever haul a trailer to Lake Monroe, it's the version to get.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
Both have a factory hitch, and $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport adds the trail hardware (clearance, all-terrains, skid plates, TrailWatch) plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps real leather, a gray interior option and 3 more highway mpg.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a South-Central Indiana summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.

New TrailSport look
More pronounced fender flares, a darker resculpted lower front fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
More standard TrailSport equipment
TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.
Darker Blackout
Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.
Smoke Blue Pearl
A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.
Higher prices
MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
How Big Is the 2027 Passport?
At 191.5 inches long the Passport fits a standard South-Central Indiana garage or driveway, and the TrailSport's 74.5-inch height still clears a 7-foot garage door. Add a roof box or bike rack and you'll want to measure first.

Passport Test-Drive Checklist for Taylorsville Drivers
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- If you can, take both trims toward State Road 46 into Brown County. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- Merge onto I-65 or US-31 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.
- Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.

The top version, the TrailSport Elite Blackout, is $55,195 MSRP. The lineup starts at $45,195 for the RT-L. Add $1,595 destination and $455 for premium paint.
